Cadets to Participate in MONDAY’S Diamond Jubilee Flag Raising AT LEGISLATURE

WINNIPEG, Manitoba: Six military Cadets will play an important role in this coming Monday’s ceremonies at the Manitoba Legislative grounds to commemorate the accession to the throne of Elizabeth the Second, 60 years ago.

The six Cadets, two each from the Army, Navy and Air Force units in Winnipeg will participate in raising the Diamond Jubilee Flag to mark the start of Manitoba’s participation in nation-wide celebrations to honour Queen Elizabeth’s 60 years as Canada’s Monarch.

The Flag raising Ceremony will take place on the front grounds of the Manitoba Legislative Building, beginning at 7:30 a.m., Monday, February 6, 2012.

The Diamond Jubilee Flag will fly throughout the day but be lowered in a following ceremony at 6 o’clock Monday evening.

The Cadets participating in the flag raising and lowering ceremony are:

From the Royal Canadian Army Cadets: Cadet Master Warrant Officer, Sandy Buzahora,
age 17, a member of the 2701 Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry Cadet Corps;
and Cadet Master Warrant Officer, Devon Guindon, age 18, of the 1226 Fort Garry Horse, Cadet Corps.

From the Royal Canadian Air Cadets: Cadet Warrant Officer Second Class Kevin Gonzalez-Contreras,
age 18, a member of the 6 Jim Whitecross Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron;
and Cadet Warrant Officer Second Class Jonathan Rodger, age 17, also a member of the 6 Jim Whitecross Royal Canadian
Air Cadet Squadron;

From the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets: Cadet Petty Officer First Class Michael Philion, age 17,
of the 49 Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps J.T. Cornwall V.C.;and Cadet Petty Officer Second Class Samantha Philion, age 15, also of the 49 Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps J.T. Cornwall V.C.

Manitoba’s Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Philip Lee, Manitoba Premier, Greg Selinger, and
Manitoba Envoy for Military Affairs, Bonnie
Korzeniowski will be present for the Flag Raising and Lowering ceremonies

After the flag is lowered in the evening, it will be folded by the Cadets and presented to the Lieutenant Governor.
It will then be placed on display in Government House.

The 6 p.m. Flag Lowering will coincide with the powering on of an architectural lighting display of the Legislative Building
This display can be seen each evening from 6 to 10 p.m. until Sunday, Feb. 12.
