École Taché School to be Expanded, New Daycare Added
Families and students will soon see welcome changes at École Taché School as it is expanded and a new daycare built, providing much-needed child care for families in St. Boniface, Education Minister Nancy Allan announced today
“This new expansion will enhance the quality of learning by giving students a new, spacious and modern environment built with their needs in mind,”said Allan.  “This is an investment in stronger families through greater opportunities for the children and parents living near École Taché.”
The $8.5-million, 16,700-square-foot expansion will include threenew kindergarten rooms, four classrooms, a multi‑purpose room, grooming room, resource room and a new daycare that will accommodate 74 children.
“Our government is committed to providing hard-working parents in our province with reliable, quality child care and that’s why we are investing  up to $5 million for child-care centre construction projects this year throughout the province,” said Family Services and Labour Minister Jennifer Howard.  “Building more child-care centres is part of the Manitoba Building and Renewal Plan, which will also help build the province’s critical infrastructure priorities such as flood protection, roads, schools and hospitals.”
“The major expansion of École Taché in Saint-Boniface, which includes the addition of 74 daycare spaces, is the realization of a great dream for the Franco-Manitoban community.  It is, above all, the answer to an urgent need for École Taché’s school community.  With this expansion, the students from this Division scolaire franco-manitobaine primary school will benefit from the extra space and from rooms that will be even more modern and functional.  On behalf of the Commission scolaire franco-manitobaine (CSFM), I welcome this announcement with joy and I want to sincerely thank the Manitoba government for supporting this project,” said Bernard Lesage, CSFM’s president.
École Taché is a kindergarten to Grade 6 French school and is presently home to more than 350 students.
Construction is expected to begin in September 2013 and the new expansion is expected to be completed in December 2014, Allan said.
Since 1999, the Manitoba government has invested more than $845 million to build 31 new schools, and renovate and improve schools across the province, she added.
