Job Vacancy


Program Overview

LEEP is a program for war affected newcomers/immigrants, ages 15 to 30, to assist in the process of adapting to their new culture. Classes run 30 hrs per week and provide a safe environment to overcome personal experiences of war, trauma and loss as well as give youth an opportunity to dream again. The objective is to enable youth to become employment / career ready and integrated into their new environment. Work experience and career exposure are provided for each participant.

Responsibilities:
We are searching for an individual who is reassuring, comforting and an encouraging team player with the ability to carry out the following :

-Planning and implementing creative classroom exercises to promote personal growth and change, build confidence and self esteem
-Competent in planning and leading improvisational exercises, and possibly acting exercises using simple scripts, that will help LEEP participants to grow in their self-confidence, and relational and communicative skills, and to think quickly, wisely, and strategically

-Able to teach participants about verbal, non-verbal, and para-verbal communication that is needed to transcend language to assist with effective interviewing, presentation, and public speaking skills, and to lead related exercises.

-Integrate the methods of drama and theatre to facilitate personal change

-Other duties assigned


Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL ATTAINED:
The successful job applicant will have completed an Undergraduate University degree or  a diploma
NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable

MINIMUM PRIOR RELATED EXPERIENCE:

Cross-cultural experience is required.

CONCENTRATION REQUIRED:

The performance of the job requires a self-motivated and team-oriented person with the passion for, and experience in, empowering war affected people in Canada, also having a broad worldview and sensitivity to political, cultural, religious, and personal factors that affect participants
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Integrity and honesty in interpersonal relationships
Acceptance and willingness to work within the policies and mission statement of The Salvation Army
Computer literacy in a Windows environment including Word, Excel and other related programs as required

Wage
$17.00-18.00 Per hour
