New Years Eve in Winnipeg
The New Year’s Eve 2006 will be remembered in the annals of Winnipeg history. The more than 30 centimetrs of snow that descended on the city just about shut down the plans of many Winnipeggers. I was on the phone at midnight talking to friends who had all decided to abandon plans to go out. Others could not get to a taxi or a taxi could not reach them. Some were so snowed it they refused to budge.
One of the big hits this year was the Canadian musical theatre development group party held at Park Theatre in Winnipeg that had a 60’s theme. Maiko Watson was one of the singers she sang such disco tunes as “It’s raining men”, “I’m every woman”, Funky Town, “I’ll survive”
I rang in the New Years with my TV pals at Time’s Square and it rocked. Maiko was fabublous. When she hit the stage the noisy room was rocked to silence. Everyone wanted to know who she was, where she is from. The girl is something The Peg City is really proud of.
