Private Sector Adds 17,300 Jobs in Past 12 Months: Bjornson
More Manitobans were working in December 2011 than in November and total employment now stands at 626,300, according to figures released by Statistics Canada, Entrepreneurship, Training and Trade Minister Peter Bjornson announced today.
“The private sector is leading the way, adding 17,300 jobs in the last year,” said Bjornson.  “This represents a 4.8 per cent increase, the third-highest among the provinces, and more than triple the national increase of 1.3 per cent.”
Manitoba’s unemployment rate improved to 5.4 per cent in December 2011 from 5.5 per cent in November 2011.  Manitoba had the third-lowest unemployment rate at the end of 2011, much better than the national unemployment rate of 7.5 per cent, and the second-lowest average unemployment rate for 2011.
